Swimming for Exercise

Wednesday March 29, 2006
You can swim a mile just a little bit slower than the slowest person in the pool. You have no interest in racing and you're not a triathlete or any other kind of athlete. You simply want to enjoy doing what is good for you. You're bored. Now what should you do in the swimming pool? Still can't swim that mile - maybe this swim zero to one mile in six week plan is what you are looking for. (Ruth Kazez)

I am 59 years old and have a slight rotor cuff tear in my left shoulder. Doctors don’t think it is severe enough to have surgery but it is painful at times especially if I try to lift an object over my head. My doctors all agree that swimming is the best exercise to strenghten this area of my shoulder. What would be a good swimming routine I could use and how often should I go. My local health club has a nice pool and I have been wanting to join.
