Swimming Pool Safety - Swim Pool Fences and Swimming Pool Alarm Systems

Swimming pools are fun. They are also dangerous. Most localities require some form of fence around pools to prevent unauthorized or inadvertent entry and drownings. A few states, like California and New York, also allow the use of swimming pool alarm systems that sound an alert when swimming pool water is disturbed, as would happen when a child falls into a pool.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a report in 2000 (PDF) discussing various types of swimming pool alarm systems. They stated that subsurface alarms generally perform better. Some of the swimming pool alarm systems on the market include:
