Turn a Small Swimming Pool into a "Lap-Swim" Pool with a Tethered Swimming System

Tuesday December 11, 2007
Swimmers, you can turn almost any swimming pool into a "lap" pool by using a tethered swimming system. These devices hold the swimmer in one spot (or almost one spot), making the size of the pool irrelevant to how long you can go before you have to turn around. Here are a few of many tethered swimming systems available:

  • Superswim
The flexible pole and belt unit comes with an in-ground deck base that requires drilling one hole in the swim deck surrounding your pool or can be used with an optional handrail clamp.
  • Swimflex-Max
2-part pole and belt design (much like a pool stick that unscrews) comes with a handrail clamp that secures to standard pool handrails or ladders.
  • RipTide
Rope and shoe design, this unit attaches to the side of a pool and uses special shoes to secure the swimmer in place.
  • Swim-in-Place Aquacise Swimming Tether
A coiled leash and belt design that attaches to pool railings.
  • StrechCordz Swim Tether Systems
A surgical tubing and padded belt design, this swim training device can be used for both resisted swimming and assisted swimming. Swim against the belt for resistance, or stretch the belt and then swim with it for a speed-boost.
