How do you to stop worrying and reacting to un-controllable in races, which are the things we simply have no control over in a race?. Things like the temperature of the water, thinking there were too many people in the warm-up pool, or not liking your assigned lane. Your mind gets stuck on these small problems and swim a poorly. This is where the mind can focus upon minor details, looking for an excuse to use in case you didn't swim well in the meet. The best way to overcome 'un-controllables' in a swimming race is by knowing that "What You Focus Upon, Expands".

I am a coach and Masters swimmer. This is so perfect as I am going to LC nationals in 4 days and I tend to go to the “dark side”. It is so easy to tell my swimmers to think positive and that they can only control their race…..they cannot control the other swimmers. I wish it was easy for me to buy into this thought process…… but since you have brought it up I will try to do my best. Thanks.
