USA Water Polo Announces U.S. Olympic Teams For Men's And Women's Water Polo
USA Water Polo is proud to announce the U.S. Olympic Teams for Men's and Women's Water Polo that will compete at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China starting August 8. The squads each qualified for the Olympics via Gold Medal victories at the 2007 Pan American Games and both are fresh off Silver Medal finishes at the 2008 FINA World League Super Final.

An American record fell Sunday evening on the final night of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials when Dara Torres lowered her own mark in the 50m freestyle. Torres qualified in her second individual event with the win in front of a crowd of 7,723 at the Qwest Center Omaha with a time of 24.25. "I was hoping to go somewhat fast," Torres said.
One World, Three American Records Fall at the 2008 USA Olympic Swim Team Trials
One world and three American records were broken Saturday at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials. In addition, Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff picked up their fifth wins of the week in front of a crowd of 13,717 at the Qwest Center Omaha. Margaret Hoelzer of King Aquatic Club set the world record in the 200m back with a time of 2:06.09, three-tenths ahead of the former mark held by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry.
41-Year-Old Torres Makes Olympics, Two World Records Set on Day 6 of 2008 Trials
One world record was broken and another tied Friday at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials. Aaron Peirsol tied the world record and qualified in the men's 200m back, turning in a time of 1:54.32, and Michael Phelps broke his own world record and added the 200m IM to his Olympic program with a time of 1:54.80. For Phelps, the 200m IM was his fourth win of the week. He has qualified for the Olympics in five events, including the 4x200m free relay.

2008 Olympic Swimming Trials Tickets On Sale Officials of the Omaha Sports Commission, USA Swimming, City of Omaha and Qwest Center Omaha announced today that approximately 9,000 all-session tickets to the 2008 Olympic Team Trials for Swimming, set for June 29 to July 6, 2008, will go on sale Thursday, May 24, at 10 a.m.

Scott Spann won the men's 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:09.97 Thursday at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials, defeating American record-holder and Longhorn Aquatics teammate Brendan Hansen in the process. Along with Spann, nine other people were named to the U.S. Olympic Team in front of 13,011 fans at Qwest Center Omaha on Day five, including a number of women who finished second in their events earlier in the week.

What are the rules of water polo, and who enforces them? Water polo is played as a 6 on 6 game plus goalkeepers, so each team has 7 in the water at a time. How long is a game? Each water polo game is made up of four, 7-minute, quarters. Total squad size is 13 players. If there are less than 6 swimmers in the water, a team does not have to have a goalie.

Katie Hoff broke two American records and Jason Lezak and Garrett Weber-Gale both lowered the American record in the 100m freestyle on the fourth night of action at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials in Omaha. Hoff broke the American records while finishing first in both the 200m free (1:55.88) and 200m IM (2:09.71). The wins marked the third and fourth of the meet for Hoff, who also won the women's 400m IM and 400m free earlier in the week.
