How to do an open swim turn
When swimming laps, change directions easily and get a breath with the open turn.
Difficulty Level: average Time Required: 10 minutes
Here's How:
- Swim towards the wall, belly down.
- Grab the wall with one hand.
- Look at your hand on the wall.
- Pull your knees in and up towards your chin.
- Pull your feet up towards your butt.
- Do a 1/2 twist so your belly is pointing to the side.
- Point the other hand (not holding the wall) the direction you want to go (under the water).
- Swivel your body, moving your hips and feet toward the wall being held.
- Take a breath.
- Let go of the wall with your hand and bring your feet to the wall.
- Let your upper body sink - hold your breath!
- Swing the hand that was holding the wall over your head to meet the other hand underwater.
- Put your hands together, straighten your arms, and point them both where you want to go (underwater).
- Push off the wall.
- Surface and begin swimming.
