USA Swimmer Mark Warkentin Finishes 8th in First-Ever Mens Olympic 10k Marathon
Mark Warkentin (Santa Barbara, Calif.) placed eighth Thursday in the Olympic debut of the mens 10k marathon swim at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. The Netherlands Maarten van der Weijden won gold in 1:51:51.6, while David Davies (GBR) earned the silver and Thomas Lurz (GER) finished third for the bronze at 1:51:53.1 and 1:51:53.6, respectively.

Chloe Sutton (Mission Viejo, Calif.) finished 22nd in the debut of the womens Olympic 10k marathon swim Wednesday at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. Russian swimmer Larisa Ilchenko won the first-ever Olympic open water gold,while Great Britian's Keri-Anne Payne and Cassandra Patten finished second and third for the silver and bronze, respectively.

USA Swimming Ends 2008 Olympic Competition At Water Cube With 31 Swimming Medals
The United States swimmers wrapped up the final session of 2008 Olympic pool swimming Sunday at the National Aquatics Center with a gold medal and a world record in the mens 400m medley relay. In the process, Michael Phelps made history by winning eight gold medals, more than any other athlete at a single Olympic Games. In the medley, Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen, Phelps and Jason Lezak finished with a time of 3:29.34.

Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps is the Greatest Olympic Swimmer of All Time
With wins in the 200m butterfly and 800m free relay, Michael Phelps won his 10th and 11th career Olympic gold medals, more than any other athlete in history. His time of 1:52.03 in the 100m fly edged his former world record in that event by six-hundredths of a second. He then teamed up with Ryan Lochte, Ricky Berens and Peter Vanderkaay to smash the world record in the 800m free with a time of 6:58.56.
With wins in the 200m butterfly and 800m free relay, Michael Phelps won his 10th and 11th career Olympic gold medals, more than any other athlete in history.
