"I think that we gave everything we could," Nott said of the performance. "We had nothing left in the end, we risked everything because we had nothing to lose. We would love to win a medal, we are holding nothing back."
Russia's Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova, the reigning Olympic and World Champions, finished the day in the top position with a near perfect 99.000. Spain's Gemma Mengual and Andrea Fuentes followed with a 98.167. China's Tingting and Wenwen Jiang tied for the third place spot with Saho Harada and Emiko Suzuki of Japan (97.000).
The duet free finals are slated for Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The overall order of finish will be determined by combining fifty percent of Wednesday's score and fifty percent of the technical score from Monday.
"There is always something to improve in synchronized swimming," said Jones when asked how the pair would prepare for the finals competition. "That's why there is no taper in synchronized swimming because there is always something to improve on, to fix. We'll get back in the pool before the finals and hope to fix everything."
The team event will get underway on Friday, August 22 with the tech portion, while the team free routine will be performed on Saturday, August 23.
