Twenty-four of the United States’ top junior divers will be headed to Puerto Rico for the 2007 Junior Pan American Diving Championships, November 1-4 in San Juan. Divers were selected based on results at the 2007 Speedo Junior National Championships. The team features two gold medalists and four other medalists from the 2005 Junior Pan Am Championships.
Ariel Rittenhouse (Santa Cruz, Calif.) became a second-generation Pan American Games medalist when she teamed with Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) to win the silver medal in synchronized 3-meter diving in wet and windy conditions Saturday at the 2007 Pan Am Games.
USA Diving has announced the eight athletes it has nominated to participate in the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Leading the team is two-time Olympian Troy Dumais, who will compete in his third Pan American Games. Dumais won bronze medals on 3-meter at both the 1999 and 2003 Pan Am Games, and he also won a bronze in 3-meter synchro with his brother, Justin, in 2003. Dumais will compete on 3-meter and pair up with Mitch Richeson in 3-meter synchro at the 2007 Games.
2007 Pan American Games diving action heats up July 25-28. Team USA will be represented by 8 members of its 2007 World Championship team, including world bronze medalists David Boudia and Thomas Finchum and two-time Olympian and three-time Pan Am Games medalist Troy Dumais. The US heads into the Games after completing of one of its most successful Grand Prix circuits in recent years. Team USA won 22 medals in four Grand Prix meets this year after winning just 12 in seven meets a year ago.
Team USA opened up diving competition at the 2007 Pan American Games with a pair of medals Wednesday. Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif) and Mitch Richeson (Greenwood, Ind.) won gold in the men's synchronized 3-meter competition and Haley Ishimatu earned silver in women's 10-meter.
US divers added two more diving medals to its Pan American Games count after picking up two bronze medals at Parque Aquatico on Thursday. Troy Dumais finished third with 484.25 points in the men's 3-meter competition, and Haley Ishimatsu and Mary Beth Dunnichay scored 297.54 points to take third in women's synchronized 10-meter. The medals were the second of the Games for Dumais and Ishimatsu, who won gold and silver, respectively, on Wednesday.
David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.) teamed up for a gold medal, and Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) added a bronze as diving competition continued Friday at the 2007 Pan American Games. Boudia and Finchum won the gold in men's synchronized 10-meter, and Bryant took third on women's 3-meter.
