Two Olympic gold medalists topped the semifinal today. Chinas Yutong Luo ranked first in the semifinal with 494.10 points while teammate and defending Olympic champion in this event Bo Peng was second with 482.70. The duo also went 1-2 in the preliminary competition earlier today. Illya Kvasha of the Ukraine was third with a semifinal score of 443.20.
Preliminary Report
Three U.S. divers entered this mornings 3m springboard preliminary, with Zach Schultz (Chicago, Ill. / Purdue) being the only diver to advance. Schultz scored 375.50 to move on as the number 15 seed.U.S. teammate Jesse Rappaport (Glassboro, N.J. / Indiana) missed the semifinal cut by just .20 points, with a score of 361.20. Rappaport was barely edged out by Australias Grant Nel, who earned the advantage in the final round, scoring 56.10 to Rappaports 54.40. Terrence Horner (Longwood, Fla. Florida State) finished out of contention in 29th place with 349.10 points.
