Horner, who advanced by winning his semifinal earlier today, found himself in the middle of the pack halfway through the competition with a score of 195.50. He slipped in the rankings in the fourth round, when his execution of a reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck earned him just 43.5 points. The 19-year-old made a valiant comeback attempt with his final two dives, scoring 72.0 points for a back 2 ½ somersault tuck and finishing with his highest score of the day, 79.05 points for his inward 2 ½ somersault tuck. Horner finished 29.95 points off the medal stand.
Chinese divers Xinhua Zhang and Yutong Luo claimed gold and silver respectively while Yuriy Shlyakhov of the Ukraine took bronze.

Horner finished as the top scorer in semifinal B of the mens 1m springboard with 399.65 points, edging eventual bronze medalist Yuriy Shlyakov by 5.85 points. Also competing in the semifinals today was Purdue senior Zach Schultz (Chicago, Ill.).
