The women's 400m free relay, led by Courtney Cashion (Irvine, Calif./Arizona), Kara Denby (Simi Valley, Calif./Auburn), Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Northwestern) and Emily Silver (Bainbridge Island, Wash./UC Berkley), actually turned in two record performances today as the team broke the meet record in the prelims in 3:41.42, before breaking their own record in the finals.
Individually, the United States earned four medals Thursday (three bronze and one silver). Ryan Hurley (Potomoac, Md./Virginia) led the way for the U.S. men, earning silver in the 200m breast in 2:13.24. Daniel Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Michigan) earned bronze in the 200m fly in 1:57.16, and Nicholas Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Arizona) picked up bronze in the 200m back in 1:58.61. Kelsey Ditto (Austin, Texas/Georgia) was the only individual on the women's side to medal Thursday as she took bronze in the 800m free with a time of 8:35.30.
Competition continues Friday, Aug. 10, with the women's 100m fly, 50m back, 100m free, 200m I.M., and the men's 800m free and 400m free relay.
