Gold medalist and NBC Olympic broadcaster, Rowdy Gaines, will serve as master of ceremonies along with Gold Medalist color commentator Brooke Bennett for the event. Hansen, Peirsol, Bennett, and Gaines will also teach a swim clinic for all ages on Saturday morning, September 26.
"Hosting an event like this in Corpus Christi is such a great opportunity to promote open water swimming and competitive swimming to a community that is very supportive to our sport," said Rowdy Gaines. "This is a city surrounded by water. Swimming is a way life for everyone in this area. We are so excited to be a part of an event hosted in a great location like Corpus."
The Corpus Christi Open Water Festival will feature an instructional clinic, a 500 yard Junior swim, a one kilometer race, a five kilometer race, and relays for both masters and youth swimmers.
"What should people expect at this event? A chance to learn from some of the best in the sport of swimming, a race course that fosters from the youngest swimmer to the most experienced veterans, and a festival atmosphere complete with vendors, entertainment, and music. This event will be a great celebration of the sport of swimming and all Corpus Christi has to offer." said PMG Aquatics VP Bobby Brewer. "This is truly an event for all swimmers whether you're 9 or 89."
