One hundred swimmers from the U.S. and Canada competed at the event, with U.S. swimmers earning the "Swim of the Day" award in all three days of competition. Long took the honors on days one and three after her performances in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly, respectively, while Rudy Garcia-Tolson (Bloomington, Calif.) was honored on day two after his performance in the 200m individual medley. Long's 100m fly was deemed the "Swim of the Meet."
The U.S. also saw Pan-American record-breaking performances from Michael Prout (East Springfield, Mass., S9 400m freestyle), Cortney Jordan (Henderson, Nev., S7 200m back), Susan Beth Scott (Cape Girardeau, Mo., S10 800m free) and Deb Gruen (Hamden, Conn., S7 800m free).
