  1. Auburn is out to a big lead with 178.5 points, despite no individual champions on day 1. Plenty of depth on Dave Marsh's squad! The rest of the top 10:
  2. Arizona 136.5
  3. Stanford 132
  4. Florida 97
  5. Texas 82
  6. California 72
  7. Southern Cal 63
  8. Northwestern 60.5
  9. Georgia 52
  10. Minnesota 50

  • The first event of the finals set the tone for Auburn (1:16.15) with their only first place of the night, followed by Arizona (1:16.54) in 2nd and Cal. Berkley (1:16.72) in 3rd.

  • The 500 free saw Peter Vanderkaay (4:08.60) of Michigan break Tom Dolan's 1995 record of 4:08.75. A great last 50 by Southern Cal.'s Ous Mellouli (4:12.92 - last 50 of 24.32), brought him just enough to earn second over Georgia's Sebastien Rouault (4:12.94).

  • Ryan Lochte of Florida, so far - by far - the most dominant swimmer at the meet, took first in the 200 IM with a NCAA, American, and US Open record time of 1:40.55. Adam Ritter (1:44.20) from Arizona and Eric Shanteau (1:44.24) took the next two spots.

  • The 50 free was won by North Carolina's Cullen Jones (19.18), second was Ben Wildman-Tobriner (19.22) of Stanford, and third was Simon Burnett (19.32) of Arizona.

  • The 1-meter springboard event was won by Chris Colwill (407.10) from Georgia, followed by Joona Puhakka (398.20) from Arizona and Steven Segerlin (382.80) from Auburn.

  • The 400 Medley Relay was won by Arizona (3:06.08), with Auburn (3:07.96) and Stanford (3:07.96) taking 2nd and 3rd. Ryan Lochte's Florida team (3:09.95) came in 7th but saw him lead-off with a 44.60 100 back, an NCAA, American, and US Open record.
