UltraSwim USA Swimming Grand Prix Swim Meet Begins Thursday 7 June 2007

Three-time Olympian and owner of 10 Olympic medals Gary Hall, Jr. will join Olympians Amanda Weir and Mark Gangloff in a deep field of swimmers set to compete at the Charlotte UltraSwim June 7-10, at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C. In addition, 17 members of the U.S. Pan American Games Team will swim at the meet. The Charlotte UltraSwim is the fourth stop on the 2007 Toyota Grand Prix Series and offers one of the last competition opportunities for the 2007 U.S. Pan American Games Team swimmers before they face international competition in Rio de Janeiro. The Pan American Games are set for July 14-21.

On Friday night, a special presentation will be made by Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Susan Burgess honoring a “Make a Splash” hero from the Charlotte community. Make a Splash is USA Swimming’s new public awareness campaign targeting drowning prevention, diversity in the sport and dedication to fitness. UltraSwim USA Swimming Grand Prix Swim Meet information is available on-line. The Toyota Grand Prix Series exists in order to provide U.S. National Team and other elite swimmers with the opportunity to compete at a high level and prepare for the championship period of the season. There are seven stops total on the 2007 calendar. National Team athletes will be preparing for three major meets this summer, including the Pan American Games (July 14-21), ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships (July 31-Aug. 4) and World University Games (August 9-14).
