Breeden bolted out in front of the pack in the women's 200m butterfly, touching just .19 off of the world record pace at the half-way mark. She held on to her lead, but faded behind the world record pace to finish first in a time of 2:08.07. Local King Aquatic swimmer Andrea Taylor (Issaquah, Wash.) took the silver in 2:09.60, while Yumi So of Pasadena rounded out the top three in 2:10.72.
In the women's 100m breaststroke, Katlin Freeman (Concord, Calif.) powered home the final 50 meters to surge ahead of the competition. She hit the wall first in 2:22.51 to set a U.S. Open meet record by more than three seconds. Ashley Wanland (Long Gove, Ill.), who lowered the meet record during prelims, was the runner-up in 2:24.29. Elizabeth Smith swam the third-fastest time of 2:27.60.
The men's 200m breast also saw a meet record fall when Robert Lovelace (Old Hickory, Tenn.) clocked in at 2:10.38. Despite getting off to a slow start, Hoosier Aaron Opel recovered on the final lap to finish second in 2:10.63. Matt Lowe (Minot, N.D.) posted the bronze-medal time of 2:12.82.
Amber McDermott (Mill Creek, Wash.) of Longhorn Aquatics destroyed the field in the women's 800m when she touched in more than eleven seconds ahead of the heat at 8:27.90. Olympian Kate Ziegler (Great Falls, Va.), who owns the world record in the 1500m free, finished second in 8:38.50. Jessica White joined the ladies on the podium with a time of 8:40.38.
Japan's Hidemasa Sano turned first at the 100-meter mark in the men's 200m fly. Bobby Bollier (Mission Hills, Kan.) made a late run at Sano, but fell just .15 short of the gold when he clocked in at 1:55.87. Sano was first in 1:55.72. Italy's Michele Consentino took third in 1:58.49.
Michael Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) took an early lead in the men's 1500m free, and held the top position for the majority of the race. However, it was Troy Prinsloo of South Africa who snuck up on the last 500 meters to challenge defeat Klueh in a time of 15:10.62. Klueh was second in 5:12.32, while Ryan Feeley was third in 15:16.79.
