Swimmers will earn points for each medal earned at a Grand Prix meet. Gold medals will command five points, silver three and bronze one. The standings will integrate male and female participants, and will recognize the swimmer with the highest cumulative point total. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the swimmer who earned the highest single-race FINA power point ranking. Leaders will be tracked in Splash Magazine, the official magazine of USA Swimming, and at usaswimming.org.
"We're pleased to introduce this new scoring system for the series," said Mark Schubert, USA Swimming's National Team head coach and general manager. "Not only will this make the series more exciting for fans, but my hope is that the competitive system will also encourage our top athletes to compete at several stops as they continue to train for success in Beijing."
