Adrian finished in 22.01 and Hall was second in 22.20. Less than three-tenths of a second separated first- and fourth-place in the men's sprint event as third-place went to South African Olympian Roland Schoeman (22.23). Croatia's Duje Draganja was fourth in 22.24.
"[Nathan Adrian] is the kid right now," said Hall, Jr. "He's the one to watch."
In the women's Olympic distance event Kate Ziegler (Great Falls, Va.) built a commanding lead to win by nearly 20 seconds in the fastest heat of the 800m freestyle. Her time of 8:26.56 ranked eighth in the world this year, and marked the third win of the meet for the 20-year-old. Ziegler also took gold in the 1500m and 400m freestyle. In second was Amanda Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) in 8:46.51, and Samantha Shellem, who swam in an earlier heat, placed third in with a time of 8:47.08.
Katie Hoff (Towson, Md.) swam her sixth event of the weekend and won her first gold in the 200m backstroke, posting a personal-best time of 2:09.95.
"I think I'm probably settling on six events for Trials; freestyles and IM's," said Hoff. Finishing nearly two seconds back was the Ukraine's Kateryna Zubkova in 2:11.68 while Kelly Harrigan (Bristol, Conn.) was third in 2:14.81.
The men's 200m back went to 2007 World University Games team member David Plummer (Oklahoma City, Okla.) in a time of 2:01.22. In second was University of Arizona's Cory Chitwood (Union, Ky.) in 2:02.03 and third went to Michael Hopkins in 2:03.67.
"I feel great. It's great to come to a meet like this and do well and swim well, so I'm really happy," said Plummer.
As the top seed in the 200m IM, Ariana Kukors (Auburn, Wash) swam a personal-best time of 2:11.68 to clinch gold. Seventeen-year-old rising star Caitlin Leverenz (Tucson, Ariz.) took second in 2:13.88 and three-time Olympian Amanda Beard (Irvine, Calif.) was third in 2:15.43.
"That's actually my best right now, so I'm really happy about it," said Kukors. "I have 11 Olympic Trials cuts right now, so I'm trying to decide what to swim [at Trials], but I'll definitely swim the IMs."
Beijing-bound South African Darian Townsend improved on his personal best to win the men's 200m IM in 2.00.30. In second was Longhorn Aquatics' Eric Shanteau (Lilburn, Ga.) who touched in 2:01.06, followed by World University Games swimmer Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C.) in 2:03.00.
Kim Vandenberg (Moraga, Calif.) easily won the women's 200m fly, besting the field by more than three seconds with a time of 2:08.55. Second-place went to Andie Taylor (Issaquah, Wash.) in 2:11.97 while Bridget O'Connor of Badger Swim Club took the final medal spot in 2:12.32.
North Baltimore's Daniel Madwed (Stamford, Conn.) bested the field in the men's event by nearly a second with a time of 1:58.43. Madwed trailed at the first wall but built a half-second lead by the 100-meter mark. Bobby Bollier was second in 1:59.30 and Juan Veloz finished third in 1:59.79.
Lara Jackson (El Paso, Texas) won the women's 50m free in 25.14. 2008 Polish Olympic Team member Agata Korc was second in 25.24 while Anna Turner of Fort Collins, Colo. was third in 25.40.
Ukrainian Olympic team member Sergiy Fesenko took home the gold in the men's 1500m free with a time of 15:22.46. Fesenko battled JK Koehler (Springfield, Ohio) and Tom Koucheravy (Fairfax, Va.) for the top spot throughout the race and the three swimmers were neck-and-neck at the final turn, but Fesenko was first to the wall to secure the win. Koehler won the silver in 15:22.67 and Koucheravy won the bronze in 15:25.95.
