Michael Alexandrov set the American record in the men's 200-yard breaststroke Saturday at the 2010 Short Course National Swimming Championships, turning in a time of 1:51.73. It bettered the former mark, set in 2006 by Olympian Brendan Hansen, by one-hundredth of a second.

U.S. National Swim Team member Michael Alexandrov set an American swimming record in the men's 100-yard breaststroke Friday at the 2010 Short Course National Swimming Championships, turning in a time of 51.35. Day 2 of the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships saw Michael Phelps add two more titles to his previous total of 28, winning the 200m free and 200m fly. Phelps won both in meet-record time. He posted a 1:45.63 in the free and finished 39-hundredths off the world record mark in the fly with a time of 1:54.32. In the most closely-contested swim of the night, Natalie Coughlin won the women’s 200m free, out-touching Katie Hoff 1:58.11 to 1:58.16.
