USA World Champ Swimmers - Swim-Crazy Aussies

From USA Swimming, for About.com

Most of the members of the men's and women's swimming team have swum in pools across the world, but many have never competed Down Under. Known for its swimming fans as much as its world-class swimmers, Australia is as excited to host Worlds as American swimmers are to visit the country and swim against the best on the planet.

“I've never been to Australia, so I'm really excited to see all of the enthusiasts who come to see some great swimming,” said Scott Usher, who will compete in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events. “I think it will be good for all of us to swim in front of a country that truly loves and appreciates the sport.”

Phelps, who is expected to dominate the water in five individual events and several relays in Melbourne, agreed, saying there really isn't a better swim crowd in the world than the Aussies. “I've been excited since Pan Pacs to have the chance to swim in front of a crowd like the Australian fans and to be able to compete on that soil,” Phelps said. “That's what swimming is all about – having fun and having the crowd just go completely crazy."
