USA World Champ Swimmers - Top to Bottom – Men’s Team

Fastest Swim Team Ever?

From

With a core of athletes named Phelps, Hansen, Crocker and Peirsol, you know you've got a strong nucleus. But when you add names and swimming resumes like Jensen, Lochte, Walker, Lezak, Jones – the list goes on and on – you've got the makings of possibly the fastest swim team ever assembled.

At the 2005 World Championships, the American men dominated the competition to the tune of 10 gold medals, including a sweep of the relays for the first time since 1982. While this year's team returns many of the same names and faces from that squad, assistant men's coach Sean Hutchison believes this year's team is deeper, faster and more seasoned across the lanes.

“Coming off an amazing summer meet series in 2006 (Pan Pacs and U.S. Nationals), our men look pretty impressive,” Hutchison said. “The couple places where we've shown weakness over the last two or three years seem to be crowding in with both new competitors and veterans adding events. The overall result is more depth for an already amazing team.”
