Team USA Synchronized Swimming Maintains Top Position at 2007 Pan Am Games

From USA Synchronized Swimming, About.com Guest

The Synchronized Swimming portion of the 2007 Pan American Games continued today at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park. Today's competition featured the Team Tech event. For the first time in the history of the sport, the Pan American Games serves as the Olympic Qualifier. Each participating country is in search of a gold medal in order to solidify a trip to Beijing.

Scores from the Team Tech routines will be combined with Saturday’s free routine scores to determine medalists. Team USA finished in the top position with a score of 95.000. Canada was not far behind with a 94.833 and host country Brazil posted a mark of 89.666.

"I feel like we are ready for Saturday (the Team Free competition)," said Team USA member Andrea Nott. "We feel more unified than ever." The United States has earned every Pan Am Team title since the inclusion of the event in 1963, with the exceptions of 1983 and 1999 in which Canada took home the crown.

The Synchronized Swimming competition will crown both Team and Duet champions and will run through July 28 2007. The competition schedule is:

    July 27 10 a.m. Free Duet/Medal Ceremony
    July 28 10 a.m. Free Team/Medal Ceremony
