Solo Free Synchro Final Highlights Day Six at FINA World Championships

From USA Synchronized Swimming, About.com Guest

The 2007 FINA World Championships continued today featuring the solo free final. Christina Jones represented the United States with a fifth place finish after posting a mark of 95.666. France's Virginie Dedieu came out of retirement to claim her third solo title with a near-perfect 99.500. Russia's Natalia Ischenko (98.500) took silver while Spain's Gemma Mengual Civil (98.000) and Japan's Saho Harada (96.667) followed.

"I was trying to better myself and to do better than in the preliminaries," Jones stated after her performance. "I wanted to demonstrate my artistic abilities, and it was a story (the routine) that I made up myself."

The duet free final will take place Friday, March 23 and the team free final will wrap up the Championships on Saturday, March 24.

Earlier in the week, Team USA claimed the bronze medal in the free combination routine final. The combo always proves to be a fan-favorite as it incorporates five different routines into one seven-minute program.

The U.S. National Team consists of Brooke Abel (Fallbrook, Calif.), Janet Culp (Littleton, Colo.), Jennie Culp (Littleton, Colo.), Kate Hooven (Pleasanton, Calif.), Christina Jones (Fremont, Calif.), Becky Kim (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Meghan Kinney, (Mission Viejo, Calif.) Andrea Nott (San Jose, Calif.), Annabelle Orme (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Jillian Penner (Seattle, Wash.), Kim Probst (Troy, N.Y.) and Layla Smith (Boulder, Colo.).
