The easy part of making the USA Water Polo Team is to be a US citizen. Then things get a little harder.

Thirteen players make the USA water polo national team from all eligible players. How does a swimmer become an eligible player? By meeting one of these requirements:

  • Athletes selected as members of USA Water Polo’s National Teams, National Training Teams or other Elite team.
  • Athletes selected through our Athlete Development Pipeline (ADP) Program and who are named as members of USA Water Polo’s Cadet (16&Under), Youth (18&Under) or Junior (20&Under) National Teams during the 2005-2008 quadrennium.
  • Athletes invited to a USA Water Polo Training Camp or tournament during the 2005-08 quadrennium.
  • Athletes identified through collegiate water polo programs.
  • Athletes identified through our PACE Clinic/Camp programs.
  • Athletes identified through ongoing scouting.
  • Athletes identified through open tryouts.

So if you are an eligible player, you have a chance to make the team. To get on the list of eligible swimmers, you have to be a good player, get noticed at games and tournaments, and get to higher and higher levels of competitions. Then you have a chance to get chosen for the national team.

Good Luck & Swim On!
