I am starting back trying to swim 1 mile
- Back to swimming a week today and used to get a mile in, should I go for half a mile for the first four weeks as I am 53 years old

Get the basics right
- I would recommend the shark fin and side kick drills as explained at swimming workouts for beginners . Get those nailed, and you will be swimming further and for longer.

Bilateral breathing
- Just a few tips: I would strongly recommend for swimmers to do bilateral breathing (breathing to both sides) so as to not overstrain one joint over the other and to prevent joint pain. Breath every 3 strokes (or any higher odd number); take two strokes, then breath to the opposite side of the arm that just pulled the water and repeat. Also, remember to point your toes while kicking to as to increase the surface area that is propelling you through the water. Good luck and happy swimming! Nick
