Mary

I joined a thiathlon club for my swim workouts. I swim 3 times a week with the club. I participate in swim meets about 3 times a year. We do a warm-up, drills and core work. Then a warm-down. I am 70 years old and will swim forever. I will compete as long as I am able.

Why do I swim.

I swim for fitness 3 x per week for about 1 hr. I try to swim about 2 miles each session. I have set workouts that I follow from Mat and other online resources. My body responds the best to a challenging swim workout.

Fitness and Equipment

I swim for fitness 3 times a week, and it's a great workout that is easy on the joints. I use a kickboard, hand paddles and pull buoy to help with stroke efficiency and endurance. And, it helps keep me interested in swimming.

Why I Swim and how often.

I Swim two to three times a week during the Winter, as I live in bermuda it means I can enjoy open Water Swims as well as morning pool Swims. I like the pool work and it improves my fitness and helps with tri-athlon training! The open Water Swims are a social gathering group called the re-habs and we Swim once a week at a chosen venue. This is usually very pleasant and relaxing! Hope this helps! happy Swimming1

because ...

I swim because I don't feel like myself if I don't. Swimming moves all the energy around, improves my karma, relaxes and strengthens both my mind and body.

To heal

I do judo and the falls can be hard on the body. Swimming help me heal. It also help me in combat because I can manage my breathing better. But I don't necessary like to swim. It's a little bit hard to «Enter the water». Once in, i'm allright!!

swimming

I swim because the Dr says I have to do some form of exercise and swimming doesnt feel like exercise. Also I have stuck with it for a year and now see some progress; more laps, faster time, better technique and to top it off, I have swim pals. A win win situation all around.

I swim for relaxation and fitness

I've been swimming so long now that its become a way of life. Its like having my breakfast, something I enjoy and get a great sense of well being from. I love the smell of chlorine it brings me back to my teenage years.

Cross Training

I am training for a full marathon and after long runs, swimming is perfect for recovery. Gets the blood flowing and alleviates stiffness in joints.

Fitness is the goal

I swim for fitness as part of an overall program that includes weightlifting along with pool time. Running became too stressful on my legs so my doctor suggested swimming. So far the decision has been positive, but being new to swimming as a wokrout I find myself asking lots of questions (I think I am driving the life guards crazy). Right now I am just trying to get to the point where I can SWIM well enough to have a teal workout program. I do 400yds with paddles and buoy, 400yds with kickboard and fins, and then 400yds freestyle (have not made it to the last 400 yet). I have been trying to do each 400 set non-stop with a rest between sets, but one of the other swimmers said I should do the 400 sets in groups of a 100yds. She said the 100's should be done with more speed than the longer 400s and the end results would be better. So maybe I will give it a try.

I swim to make life tolerable

I swim for the high, health benefits, and meditation time. I design, write, and problem solve during laps. If I have a problem, usually I have a solution by the end of my workout.

For fun

I swim for fun. I go to the beach and splash around, I don't really do a workout, but I do swim out in the waves a little, and it is great.
