Jessica Hardy (Long Beach, Calif.) continued her world record breaking spree on the fourth day of competition at the 2009 U.S. Open National Championships by breaking the world record in the women's 100m breaststroke. Hardy swam the event in a time of 1:04.45 to better the previous record by nearly half a second.

Samantha Tucker (Austin, Texas) kicked off the night with a championship record in the women's 200m freestyle with a time of 1:58.81. Erica Erndl (Naples, Fla.), who won the 100m free previously this week, took home the silver in 1:58.92. Leone Vorster was third in 1:59.39.

Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up his second gold medal of the meet and posted the third meet record of the evening when he swam a time of 52.51 in the men's 100m backstroke. Patrick Schirk was the runner-up in 54.75, and France's Pierre Roger won the bronze in 55.21.

Adam Ritter (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) garnered the gold in the men's 200m free with a time of 1:47.57. Michael Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) followed in second place with a time of 1:48.65, and Alex Wold was third in 1:49.25.

Kevin Swander (Carmel, Ind.) turned under world record pace in the men's 100m breast at the half-way mark. He trailed slightly off the record, but held on for first place in meet record time of 59.40. Marcus Titus lit up the board next with a time of 1:00.21. Michael Alexandrov rounded out the top three in 1:00.57.

Rachel Bootsma earned her first U.S. Open title when she touched in at 1:00.47 in the women's 100m backstroke. Noriko Inada clocked in just two tenths later at 1:00.64, and two-time Olympian Margaret Hoelzer (Huntsville, Ala.) snuck into the top three with a time of 1:00.76.
